Byron Patterson's 30 year career spans across the public and private sectors, including military, legislative, political, and civil service experience. He currently serves as the Committee Management Officer for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Byron joined HRSA after several years with the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association (PhRMA) as an advocate for low cost prescriptions for patients, focusing on religious community outreach.
Byron notably served as Special Assistant to Chairman Billy Tauzin (R-LA) of the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee. Simultaneously, Byron assisted with the Chairman's Legislative portfolio for his Louisiana constituents while balancing his duties in Washington, DC. In these roles Byron liaised between the Chairman and Members of Congress, staff, constituents, and stakeholders. He also managed the Chairman's highly dynamic schedule and staffed the Chairman at all meetings, hearings, events, and travel giving him a front-row seat to the inner workings of Capitol Hill.
He was first introduced to the legislative process in his Special Assistant position at R. Duffy Wall & Associates, where he wrote status reports on legislation, tracked congressional voting patterns, and coordinated transportation for Members of Congress for company events. He received his first job on the Hill as a Special Assistant to Congressman Don Young (R-AK), Chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources, and later Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation. Byron served on the committee staff and in Congressman Young's Congressional office, where he handled educational, postal, and veterans issues — the latter two being paramount to residents of Alaska.
In addition to his Hill experience, he has worked on the campaigns of Congressman Don Young, Congressman Billy Tauzin, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), and has volunteered on numerous Congressional races.
Byron, a native Washingtonian, is a US Navy Veteran and graduate of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, CA. He currently resides in Rockville, MD with his wife, Nicole.
